Hollywood High School

Los Angeles Unified School District
Los Angeles, California

Established in 1906 and rebuilt in the 1930’s at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Senior High School stands as an iconic Hollywood landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The verdant campus consists of several buildings set among a collection of mature trees, plus an athletic field, with five buildings constructed in the Public Works Administration (PWA) Moderne style.

The Los Angeles Unified School District selected our firm to provide comprehensive repairs to the original Administrative/Classroom building following damage incurred during the Northridge Earthquake, 1994. The scope of work also included campus-wide access modifications and upgrades with all work to preserve the integrity of the historic architectural fabric. Modifications included adding accessible seating on the main floor and in the balcony of the auditorium, as well as a stage lift.

An exterior elevator and stair tower improve access to both levels of the auditorium. Constructed of steel and cement plaster, the tower and staircase also complement the proportions and modern aesthetic of the building’s exterior.
